Virat Kohli Nears a Monumental Batting Milestone, Approaching Sachin Tendulkar’s Record
The 34-year-old cricketer also holds the second position in the list of players with the most centuries in One Day Internationals (ODIs), with India’s Sachin Tendulkar, an icon of the sport, leading the way with 49 centuries. Furthermore, this legendary opener has claimed the top spot as the highest run-scorer in the ODI format.
Star India batter Virat Kohli has been on a record-breaking spree in international cricket and his numbers in One Day Internationals are impeccable. He’s garnered the title of chase maestro for his knack for securing significant runs during chases.
Kohli is currently the second-highest run scorer for India and fifth-highest run-getter overall in ODIs with over 13000 runs, including 48 hundred in the format at an incredible average of over 50. Also among the 48 hundreds, five have scored 150 plus.
The Milestone Century:
Kohli, who entered the ODI arena in August 2008, notched his inaugural century just over a year later in 2009 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, facing off against Sri Lanka. He followed up with his first century on foreign soil, two weeks later in Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
His maiden ODI hundred in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) nations came in 2011 during a rain-affected match against England at the Sophia Gardens in Wales. Unfortunately we lost the match.
He has so far scored 10 hundreds in SENA countries. Among the 10, five have been scored in Australia, three in South Africa, and one each in the UK and New Zealand.
22 of his 48 hundred have come at home, while 11 have come from other Asian countries (Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), and 5 have been scored in West Indies and Zimbabwe.
His preferred venues include R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and Shere-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, where he has registered 4 ODI centuries each. He has also excelled at MCA Stadium in Pune, ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag, and Queen’s Park Oval in Kingston, with 3 ODI hundreds at each of these locations.
When it comes to preferred opponents, Kohli has notched up the highest number of ODI centuries (10) against Sri Lanka. That also happens to be the record for a player scoring the most hundreds against a single opposition in ODIs.
Kohli has also scored nine hundred against West Indies and eight against Australia, making the two his next favorite opponents.
