“He’s a monster,” Kei Nishikori says Roger Federer could go back to winning Grand Slams
Kei Nishikori recently spoke about Roger Federer’s return at his press conference after defeating Reilly Opelka in the first round in Dubai.
With his return from the ongoing injury, Kei Nishikori thinks Roger Federer played at a solid level in Doha, considering it was his first tournament since the 2020 Australian Open.
“He’s a monster,” he said of Federer. “In a good way,” Nishikori added. “He played two solid games, it was unexpected.”
Roger Federer reached the quarter-finals in Doha before losing to future champion Nikoloz Basilashvili.
‘He played a nice game. Obviously, having been a gap year, he was a little off, you know. But he still played great. Not everyone could do it. ‘
Nishikori also believes Federer could return to compete for the Grand Slam titles.
“We hope he can come back strong and we can play a couple of games,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed playing against him and I’m sure he can go back to winning Grand Slams again.”
