Zverev cruising to Wimbledon round three | The Canberra Times

Alexander Zverev made it through the third round of Wimbledon smoothly with a comfortable win over American Tennys Sandgren. The striking German was always in command of a fun match on court two when he broke Sandgren’s serve in the 11th game of the first set. It was a one-way traffic from then on as fourth-seeded Zverev finished a 7-5 6-2 6-3 win to move up to the All England Club round of 32 for a fourth time. Zverev reached the final of the US Open last year and the semi-finals at the recent French Open, but never made it to the round of 16 at Wimbledon. Sandgren entertained the crowd with some good-natured jokes and could only giggle when he messed up complete with a smash to get a double break in the second set. Zverev shot 36 wins and 13 aces and still hasn’t lost a set this week. The German lost just five serving points in the first two sets, then saved the one break point he faced with a backhand winner on the line when he was up 2-1 in the third. Zverev broke again in the final game when Sandgren scored a forehand. Next for Zverev will be another American: either Taylor Fritz, seeded number 31, or Steve Johnson. Australian Associated Press
