Paris [France], June 12 (ANI): World number one Novak Djokovic stunned reigning champion Rafael Nadal as he rushed into the men’s finals of the ongoing French Open.
Djokovic defeated defending champion Nadal 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2 in the men’s second semifinal here at Court Philipp-Chatrier. Djokovic will now meet Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday’s French Open finals.
In the first set, 35-year-old Nadal pulled out his A-game on the pitch and Djokovic had no answer to what was thrown at him. The Spaniard only lost three games in the entire set, winning it 6-3.
World number one Djokovic staged a comeback in the second set, and knocked Nadal out of his game and in the end, the Serbian ended up winning it 6-3 and this ensured that the match would go to at least the fourth set .
In the third set there was back and forth action, and at one point he was leveled to 6-6 and moved on to the tie break. In the end, world number Djokovic managed to hold his own by winning it 7-6.
Eventually, Djokovic managed to finish the match by winning the fourth set 6-2 and ended up eliminating Nadal from the tournament.
On Friday, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas managed to move on to the men’s finals of the current French Open.
Tsitsipas defeated sixth-seeded Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 here at Court Philippe-Chatrier. The whole match lasted 3 hours 37 minutes. The victory ended Tsitsipas’ three-game losing streak in the Grand Slam semi-finals. (ANI)
