STEVE SMITH has been the talk of the town so far in the Ashes.
The Australia captain has lived up to his reputation, being immovable with the bat against England during the first test in Brisbane.
And up in the stands, fiancee Dani Willis has been filmed enjoying her man’s displays as much as anybody.
Who is Dani Willis?
Dani Willis met Smith in 2011, when she was a law and commerce student at Macquarie University.
The pair first got to know each other at a bar in Sydney during the inaugural season of the Big Bash League.
And in June this year, the cricket star proposed to his girlfriend atop the Rockefeller Centre.
What impact has Dani Willis had on Smith’s cricket?
It would be an exaggeration to say Smith’s fiancee was solely responsible for his stoic 141 unbeaten in the first innings at the Gabba.
But the Australia captain has admitted that Willis has had a positive impact on his game.
Shortly after being replacing Michael Clarke as captain, he told the Sydney Morning Herald: “She has been amazing. She’s always there for me when I’m around.
“It’s nice that you have some honest feedback to come home to all the time. She’s been terrific for me over the last few years.”
And having met Dani during a two-year period in the wilderness following an erratic start in the green cap, Smith eventually adopted the more patient style that earned him the test captaincy.
He said: “I started too soon. As a batsman [in Test cricket], I played too many shots.
“I didn’t have the patience. I just tried to score a hundred off 50 balls.
“So I got the opportunity to play state cricket [for New South Wales]. Try to get some big scores and bat time. That was the best thing for me at that stage.”
