‘SOZ FOR PUNCHING YOU IN THE NUTS’
Stevie, eight, shockingly hit and kicked the American in bizarre scenes ahead of their WBO bout
BILLY JOE SAUNDER son issued a grovelling apology to Willie Monroe Jr tonight after punching him in the NUTS during their weigh-in.
Youngster Stevie, eight, shockingly hit and kicked the American yesterday in bizarre scenes ahead of the WBO World Middleweight Championship fight.
But following his dad’s points win over the 30-year-old New Yorker, he said in the ring: “Sorry for punching you in the nuts”.
The apology came after Monroe threatened to SUE Saunders, his promoter Frank Warren and the British Boxing Board of Control.
It all started off like a regular weigh-in yesterday as the pair squared up ahead of their showdown on Saturday night.
Saunders‘ lad is then seen approaching the pair, only to be ushered away.
But that doesn’t stop him, as he wriggles his way between the two boxers.
As Monroe gives the youngster a cheeky tap on the head, Stevie unleashes a venomous punch to the groin.

He follows that up by aiming a kick at the clearly startled American boxer.
All the while, Saunders stands by posing, flexing his biceps for the camera – barely flinching at his son’s below-the-belt antics.
However, following the weigh-in, he did incredibly DEFENDED his son’s actions, tweeting: “My sons been taught when A stranger puts their hands on them they don’t know punch and run away self defence” [sic].
Meanwhile, Monroe laughed off the incident, with trainer TJ Nolan saying: “When you roll with a wolf pack and the leader of the pack is like Saunders is, that’s the outcome – you get screwed up little kids.
“That’s what is wrong with the world today.
“Maybe Billy Joe Saunders is teaching his kids to do wrong. He seems like a horrible person.
“It didn’t rattle Willie, he thought it was cute.
“But we are over in another country, nine of us, we’re not rattled one bit. But that little situation looks bad on British boxing.
“We knew something was going to happen but that was what you call, dare I say it, a low blow.”
